Due to some unforeseen circumstances, all the 2010 Canon-PhotoMalaysia Monthly competitions, with the exception of the Competitions for January and February 2010, will be canceled. This is due to the low quantity and low quality of the images submitted, and also to a timing issue.

The good news is, for 2011, the Canon-PhotoMalaysia Photo Contest will start afresh with a new style and format. The contest themes for the entire 12 months are being announced all at once, below, so that members will have more time to plan their shoots and submissions for each month. Hopefully, this will result in a higher standard of submissions. In addition, the voting system of the past will be scrapped. In its place, a panel of jurors will select the winners. The online voting system will therefore be abolished. Entries will now no longer be hidden from view and all entries will be visible on submission into the competition threads. For the PhotoMalaysia Photo Competition, there will be no limit to post processing. You can do whatever you like with the pictures you submit, but the boundaries of acceptability will be at the sole discretion of the Panel of Jurors, and their deliberations and decisions will be final, confidential, and non negotiable.

Each month, there will be at least 5 "Honorary Mentions". This year we hope to try and do three things with the best entries of each month. Firstly we will do an exhibition of the best entries at the end of the year. Secondly we will try to do a Coffee Table Book which will be published online on the basis of a print on demand, and the profits of any sales will be donated to a charity to be decided upon. Thirdly, we will also try to sell reprints of selected pictures to members and to the public, with the net proceeds to be shared 50-50 between copyright owners and a charity to be named by PhotoMalaysia. In view of these plans, prize winners and those who have had their works honorably mentioned, will need to hand over a copy of their hi-res files before taking any prizes.

A new thread for each monthly competition will be opened every month. And to remind you to submit entries for the competition, all members will get a monthly newsletter in your Inbox alerting you about the challenge.

Canon has generously offered more prizes this year. For the moment, there will be one prize given away each month to the best entry and the monthly prize will be either a Pixma MX357 printer (RRP : RM518), a Selphy CP800 Photo Printer (RRP : RM549) or a PowerShot A3100 Camera (RRP : RM599), depending upon availability.

In addition, there will also be 3 Grand prizes to be given away at the end of the year, comprising an EOS7D (Body only) for the Grand winner, a 2nd Prize of an EOS500D (EFs18-55IS) for the first runner up, and a PowerShot G12 for the second runner up. The three year end prize winners will be selected by a panel of jurors, from the 12 monthly winners. Thank you, Canon, for your generous offer of prizes for our PhotoMalaysia monthly competition.
